A native Louisianan, Casey White founded Pippi’s Purpose which specializes in cannabis boutique and smoke shop products. White expanded into the food and beverage industry opening a food truck called “A Taste with Pippi” specializing in Louisiana BBQ.
Located in Abbeville, White’s CBD Dispensary-style shop had been open six years. “All small businesses face challenges but opening a small business in the cannabis industry in Louisiana has been something else,” said White.
“Our state leaders vote to enact laws with zero understanding of the impact the laws have on our small businesses,” added White, citing recent laws
like the “vape ban” and serving size reduction of consumable hemp products like CBD gummies.
“We are bullied now more than ever. Nothing has changed. If you aren’t in the club, you have no voice. And it’s a difficult club to get in,” said White, adding that these laws appeared to target the only competition for the legislator-owned monopoly.
“The role of the government should be to assist small business to succeed. That helps everyone
benefit. But in our industry, it seems the State of Louisiana is determined to put us out of business. In many cases, they have already succeeded,” said White.
When vape shops and small CBD-related business shut their doors, many patients suffer because they are left with almost no lower-cost or nearby/accessible alternatives.
