LA Rev Stat § 40:1046 (2020)
Per Act 491 and Act 492 of the 2022 Regular Legislature, as of August 1, 2022, the Louisiana Department of Health has assumed regulatory authority over Louisiana's medical (therapeutic) marijuana program.
Please visit the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) and Board of Pharmacy Websites for up-to-date information on pharmacy locations, qualifying conditions, and all other regulatory information.

There are many physicians locally and virtually that can assist you in applying for your medical marijuana recommendation.
I have seen Dr. Victor Chou for more than four years now and would recommend him for anyone, especially patients with more complex medical conditions who like a mix of in-person and virtual consultations.
Dr. James Moises, Moises Medical Center
New Orleans Area
There are less involved options as well: Groupon and other groups offer suitable scheduling with licensed physicians for your MMJ recommendation.
First and foremost, start with obtaining your record(s). Most physicians will have a form you can print out and request your medical records. Please give yourself extra time to request any records as sometimes it takes a few days.
Because MMJ is such a different type of medication, I suggest seeing a doctor who specializes specifically in marijuana. Also, I want to make sure that you do not feel judged or turned away--ESPECIALLY if you are transitioning off opioids; that is hard enough.
As a state, we are new to MMJ so we are still battling the stigma associated with the plant. I have personally encountered it not only in my personal life but also in my interactions with individuals in the medical field...I hope that as a group we can change some minds about it.
In note of that background noise, please remember that everybody's doctor is different, so please contact whomever YOU choose and make sure YOU are prepared with all of your paperwork when you go (& know that we'll be rooting for you!)
